Local Repository of Musical Ontologies (TAMO) of the Music Documentation Laboratory (EPSETEM) of the University of Ioannina
The research team at the University of Ioannina focused on indexing, cataloguing, documenting, and linking information related to the discography of Vassilis Tsitsanis (1915–1984), one of the most prolific Greek composers of urban folk-popular music, who recorded at least 550 original compositions between 1936 and 1983. A significant number of these works saw multiple second, third, and further recordings/reperformances. In the local repository of the Vassilis Tsitsanis Recordings Collection, besides inputting the standard data, the research team concentrated on managing metadata derived both from direct listening (such as modal, harmonic, and rhythmic structuring) and from primary and secondary sources (for instance, biographies of key figures). The methodological approaches, the presentation of findings, and the overall structure of the repository were grounded in interdisciplinarity and propose a modern, innovative model for cataloguing and documenting historical discography.
